What is jersey fabric?

Jersey is a type of knit fabric (made with a specific knitting process) that was originally made from wool, but nowadays it's available in a variety of materials. Most common options include cotton, bamboo or synthetic fibre blends, such as spandex or elastane.

Cotton jersey fabrics are often used for polo shirts, dresses, casual clothing and even underwear as they feel smooth against the skin.

Is jersey fabric stretchy?

Yes, because jersey fabric is a knitting technique rather than a type of fibre.
Jersey knit fabric is looped, which gives it more elasticity compared to woven fabrics.

Cotton Jersey usually has a gentle two-way stretch.

What is single jersey fabric?

There are two different types of jersey knit fabric, depending on the manufacturing process. Single jersey fabric has one piled side and one flat side; it is lighter and more suitable for making T-shirts and casual wear.

What is double jersey fabric?

Double jersey is thicker and heavier with more durability in its structure, and is more commonly used for more structured garments like dresses and skirts.
Double jersey looks the same on both sides.
